An exceptional **“Sapporo” dining suite**, designed by **Mario Marenco** for **Mobil Girgi**, Italy, circa 1970.
Comprising a substantial dining table and four matching chairs, the suite is distinguished by its sculptural timber construction, beautifully rounded profiles and original black leather seats. The architectural legs and gently curved chair backs lend the ensemble an almost monumental presence, whilst retaining the warmth and refinement associated with the finest Italian cabinetmaking of the period.
The timber displays a particularly rich colour and a most attractive, naturally developed patina. A remarkably handsome and increasingly sought-after example of 1970s Italian design.
**Mario Marenco (1933–2019)** was an Italian architect, industrial designer, actor and celebrated wit. After graduating in architecture from the University of Naples, he continued his research in Stockholm and Chicago before establishing his own practice in Rome. He designed for several of Italy’s most distinguished manufacturers, including Arflex, Artemide, Bernini and Mobil Girgi. His work is admired for its bold proportions, architectural clarity and unmistakably playful intelligence.
