A Bespoke Mobilgirgi ‘Sapporo’ Dining Table: A Singular Commission
One is presented with a rather extraordinary opportunity to acquire a truly singular piece of Italian design history: a bespoke Mobilgirgi ‘Sapporo’ dining table, executed in solid wood to a specific commission. Unlike the standard production models, this example was specially ordered by the original patron in a distinctly intimate size of 140 centimetres, rendering it an exclusive one-off that marries the brutalist elegance of the Sapporo line with a more domestic, convivial proportion.
The table is a testament to the finest traditions of cabinetmaking, featuring the unmistakable, chunky cylindrical legs that define the Sapporo aesthetic. These are not merely supports but sculptural statements, their generous proportions softened by a superb, hand-finished patina that speaks of the wood’s natural warmth and the passage of time. The tabletop, a masterpiece of joined timber, exhibits a rich, varied grain, ensuring that no two angles are alike.
Perfect for the discerning collector who values the intimacy of a smaller dining setting without compromising on architectural presence, this piece is a rare foray into custom-made Italian furniture. It is not merely a table; it is a conversation piece—a slice of Mobilgirgi’s heritage, tailored for a specific room and now seeking a new residence where its unique stature will be properly appreciated.
